The AHRF is proud to have sponsored the 1st Annual “You asked for it” RPM Drags at Barona Dragway!
Last week we were pleased to get to join our fellow hot rodders at a wonderful new event put on by RPM Nationals organizers Russ Hare and Justin Baas. Although their annual Santa Margarita event is a “flathead only” affair, this new venture opened its gates for early OHV powered machines in addition to the flathead classes and man-oh-man did things get serious. With some heavy-duty OHV powered hot rods coming from all parts of the country, competition was fierce and the racing was serious.
Using an NHRA certified tree on the “no prep” Barona Dragway’s 1/8th mile made for some fun racing action and kept the competitors honest, as red lighting never became a source of debate. Many a friend and AHRF supporting member were on hand to race their machines; Louis Stands ( Chevy powered ’32 roadster ), Tom and Diana Branch ( Stude powered ’32 roadster and sedan ), Augie Esposito ( early Cad powered ’40 coupe), and Mike Detwiler ( blown Ardun ’32 roadster … a class winner! ) were just a few and seeing our timing tags displayed on the many cars parked throughout the pits really made our day.
We want to thank all of the competitors who braved the heat and brought so many great cars out to be used in the way they were meant to be and we congratulate Russ and Justin on a job well done. We were proud to support such a great event and we look forward to doing the same and seeing everyone at the upcoming RPM Nationals at Santa Margarita Ranch!
