Clint Seccombe 1940
Here’s a published caption from 1940 on this car- “Under the hood of this little roadster, owned by Clint Seccombe Jr., is a V-16 motor. With windshield, headlights, license plates, bumpers, and other removable equipment stripped off, this car traveled at 125.36 mph in speed trial.” In reality, Clint Seccombe is seen on the left with carb in hand at the June 30, 1940, S.C.T.A. meet at Harper Dry Lake. He was running a Cadillac V-16 engine that extended well into the driver's compartment of his Model-A. He drove her to a speed of 125.52 mph for a first in class. Second place man Vic Edelbrock could only manage 118.52 mph in his flathead V-8 powered Deuce. The next year the S.C.T.A. changed the rules and made Clint run in its new Unlimited Class. Needless to say, Clint was upset and sold the car. After the war, Stan Jones ran the car in a more modified form featuring a reworked body with a Ford truck grill shell. It was last spotted in Hot Rod Magazine around ’60 and was living in Texas. ©AHRF/Courtney Collection via Leslie Long (CRT_001)
