Carroll Shelby

Born in Leesburg, Texas in 1923, Carroll Hall Shelby would go on to become one of the most iconic figures in the history of motorsport. Starting with a Ford V8-60 powered MG, Shelby would quickly learn that he had a natural gift for driving on the limit. Word of the fast Texan found its way to the west coast by the early/mid-1950s and Shelby would soon find himself piloting a wide range of high-end sports cars in both Cal-Club and early SCCA meets. With victories piling up, the word now spread to Europe where Shelby was offered a factory drive with the legendary Aston Martin Racing Team and in 1959 Carroll Shelby won the prestigious 24 Hours of LeMans with co-driver Roy Salvadori. This would place Shelby alongside the greats of the sport and ultimately allows him to launch his hugely successful Shelby American Inc., where he would produce his Shelby Cobra, Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe, Mustang GT350 and GT500s, and oversee the great successes at the LeMans 24hrs by the Ford Motor Company and their Ford GT40s.
