In Episode Two of our Legends Series, we look at the life of hot rod pioneer Barney Navarro. Known for having the mind of a scientist/engineer, Barney was also a straight-up hot rodder.
His subject was his slick, track-nosed, T roadster and his laboratory was the dry lakes, where he could be found during the 1940s developing his own brand of speed equipment through trial and error. An early proponent of supercharging, Navarro was keen to try anything that might bring him some more speed. Thanks to his meticulous data collecting, Navarro was one of the few speed equipment manufacturers who could back up his claims with hard and proven evidence.
As you’ll see in this short film using footage shot by the American Hot Rod Foundation several years before his passing, Navarro is all too happy to provide in-depth explanations of his theories and developments and takes you inside his own workshop where he provides visual aides in the form of casting cutaways and blueprints that help show the details of his creations.
