Saving Hot Rod History takes an army of many and we’re happy to know someone like Cole Coonce who has been on the front lines of this effort for many years.
Cole Coonce has written about drag racing, drag queens, drum machines, sex machines, ketamine, Kraftwerk, the Land Speed Record, the record business, bicycles, Japanese drifters, high plains drifters, UFOs, quantum mechanics, shade-tree mechanics, famous nobodies that slept on his couch and Mark E. Smith… and we got him to sit down with us for a film interview!
Yes, Cole Coonce has done all that and more and we couldn’t possibly recommend his books on drag racing (Top Fuel Wormhole 1+2 are mandatory) and Land Speed Racing enough. When he isn’t sharing his deep knowledge of 1960s drag racing with the world he’s either just about to or is filming or editing a film on the subject. Although we’re pretty sure he was using the term “trajectory” when this photo was taken, we’re gonna guess that the story underway most likely had more to do with a clutch explosion than something involving one of Pete Townsend’s guitars. But, with Cole, you never know!
We want to thank Cole for sharing his story and knowledge with us and for donating his expertise in and around the audio recording of our most recent AHRF film interviews. We couldn’t have done it without him! We hope you enjoy Cole’s full-length film interview found in the Member’s area of the AHRF website.
