Norm Grabowski

In the 1950s a young hot rodder named Lary Reid had a buddy named Norm who was building a hopped up T-bucket. He would regularly visit Norm to check on the progress of this driveway-built hot rod and, fortunately for us, he would oftentimes have his 8mm home movie camera with him.

Norm’s last name was Grabowski and that T-based hot rod would go on to be one of the most photographed and filmed hot rods of all time. Ultimately named the “Kookie Kar”, this intimate look into the origins of that little machine (and the equally Kookie kid who built and drove it) shows a colorful and fun-filled 1950s southern California where a teenage kid could build a hot rod in his parents’ driveway only to then see that same machine on the cover of Hot Rod magazine, Life magazine, and even on the silver screen! We thank our friend Lary for his generosity in sharing his priceless home movie with us.
