Our April Hot Rod of the Month, a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe submitted by Dan Leedom.
Year: 1940
Make: Ford
Model: Deluxe Coupe
Engine: 1948 Ford Flathead
Transmission: Stock 3 speed 1940 Ford
Rear End: Columbia 2 Speed
More about the car: Vehicle was originally restored to original per the Early Ford V-8 Club of America and subsequently sold to several new owners including myself about 10 plus years ago. Over the years there have been mild modification including a new 59AB flat head engine with NOS Eddie Myer Speed equipment (Heads, Intake & Air Cleaner). I have added a dropped axle, 36 wishbone and tube shocks, and front spring to enhance the ride (reversed spring perches, de-arched spring was used to lower the front prior). I added Disc brakes as well for better stoping capabilities and the coupe still retains its original Columbia Overdrive. I love to drive my cars and the changes have made for a great driving experience.
The color is Folkestone Grey, one of my favorite colors in 1940. Black wall radial (bias looking) tires have been added for that traditional look and again a better driving experience. Interior is basically stock with mild modifications.
About the AHRF Hot Rod of the Month Contest
The Hot Rod of the Month Contest is a special opportunity available only to Foundation Members. Active Members have a two-week period EACH MONTH in which to enter a car they own by providing photos and a description of their car. During the following two-week period, all Members, whether they have entered a car or not, can individually vote for their favorite car.
The car with the most Member votes at the end of each month will be the AHRF Hot Rod of the Month and will be featured on the AHRF website and on social networks.
At the end of each calendar year, the Advisory Board of the Foundation will select one car, as the AHRF Hot Rod of the Year, from that year’s Hot Rod of the Month winners. The Hot Rod of the Year will be given special publicity, and the car will be maintained in an ongoing catalog of AHRF Hot Rod of the Year winners.
