Fred Larsen

As a lifetime member of the 200 MPH Club and the 300 MPH Club, Fred Larsen has seen his fair share of Land Speed Records. He was a man dedicated to speed and was always looking for new angles in car designs.

Incredibly, Fred raced the lakes for over 60 years and broke land speed records every decade from 1959 to 2000. While Fred was involved in building many cars (he even worked on the 1st Shelby Cobra) it was the Larsen-Cummins streamliner that put him at the top. In 1992 Fred broke the FIA record at 307 MPH. In September 2000, at the age of 80, he set a 258 mph record and decided to retire from racing. However, he still went to work every day at Moon Equipment, a job he held for 30 years.
