As following acts go, Vic Edelbrock Jr. was handed a particularly hard one. His father, Vic Sr., had died at the age of 49 from throat cancer. His father was legendary in the hot rod world and the Edelbrock name was known as the place to go for speed equipment.
The young Vic, supported by the dedicated team of Bobby Meeks, Don Towle and Robert Bradford, soon proved he was up to the task of not only taking over the company but of growing it to unimaginable heights.
In 1964 with the help of legendary Bob Joehnk, Edelbrock produced the C-4B manifold that revolutionized the small block Chevy. Soon to follow were the Tunnel Ram, Tarantula and Streetmaster manifolds. Vic’s ingenuity and business acumen again propelled Edelbrock to the forefront of speed equipment.
From 1971-1974 Vic became president of the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) successfully educating the public and Congress about the performance parts industry.
While the production of manifolds was proving successful, Vic broadened the company’s inventory. In the 80’s and 90’s, Edelbrock began making camshaft kits, valve train parts, cylinder heads and other engine accessories.
Sadly, Vic Edelbrock Jr passed away June 9, 2017 at the age of 80.
Today Edelbrock is a multi-million dollar corporation employing over 600 people.
