𝚃𝚞𝚎𝚜𝚍𝚊𝚢, 𝙹𝚞𝚕𝚢 𝟾, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟻

Clyde Sturdy showed up at Bonneville in 1951 with his So-Cal Speedshop sponsored Deuce featuring cardboard streamlining devices. He entered the car in Class B Modified Roadster. It was powered by a ’46 Mercury flathead displacing 246”. The record Clyde was running against was 143.435 mph set in 1950 by the Dahm brothers. At the end of the meet, his fastest speed was 142.857 mph. That was good for a fifth in class. In the meantime, the Miller & Taylor ride grabbed first prize with a speed of 161.870 mph. Behind and on the right, is the Purdy & Scott Class A Lakester that grabbed second in Class with a speed of 133.825 mph powered by a 150” Ford V-8 60.
