This month, we are featuring a “Person of the Month” for May 2021 (as opposed to “Member of the Month”), as our late friend David Fetherston never got to sign up as a member of the AHRF but he certainly supported us in ways that we could never thank him enough for.
Along with the entire automotive community, we were deeply saddened by the passing of Photographer, Historian, and Publisher David Fetherston. Ultimately becoming president of his own publishing company (Fetherston Publishing), David was one of those rare people in the automotive world to evolve from journalist and photographer to automotive history specialist to prolific author and publisher. His books include Heroes of Hot Rodding, Chrysler Concept Cars 1940-1970, Bonneville: A Century of Speed (a book that we’re proud to say the AHRF worked on with David), and his 1999 Automotive Book of the Year winner, American Woodys.
Because of his love of history and the fact that he wanted to be sure that his life’s work would be preserved, we are honored that David chose to pass on his important collection of automotive photography to the American Hot Rod Foundation. We thank David for contacting us when he did so that he could see the physical transfer of his images take place and we will continue to enjoy sharing his wonderful work and collection with all of you. The idea that his work would continue to be seen by many was so important to him and we are truly honored that he chose and trusted us for this task. Our hearts and condolences go out to his family.
RIP, Old Friend.
